Charlie's Bridal Session

I had a wonderful time photographing Charlie for her bridal portraits last Fall. Between her relaxed and fun attitude, and the incredible late afternoon light, I really loved how the session turned out.  I'm really looking forward to her upcoming April wedding as it should be a blast! Here's a few of my favorites.

Here's another fun reception photo. On a previous blog post I showed how a low camera angle helped provide drama for a dance floor photo. For this one I needed to hold the camera high over my head to rise above the crowd with the bride and groom. I love the emotion in this shot. A wonderful captured moment.

Everyone knows that the wedding rings are a very important symbolic detail of a wedding. So of course it's standard procedure for a photographer to document them thoroughly throughout the wedding day and I'm always trying to find different ways to show them off!

This is a fun shot taken as we finished up the formal photos and headed to the reception. A nice combination of ring detail but also a nice portrait showing the love between the bride and groom.

I always try to include a nice mixture of photojournalistic and posed photos at each wedding and I'm more than happy to adjust the ratio to suit the preferences of the bride and groom. I think both are beautiful and help tell the story of the day. In this case, a photojournalistic approach helped capture the true joy of the bride and groom as they left the reception to the cheers of their family and friends and headed off to their honeymoon.

I love taking photos at wedding receptions. The wilder the better as far as I'm concerned! I think it's important for the photographer to be aggressive for these types of shots. I often wade right into the crowd on the dance floor and experiment with shootings from various angles to emphasize the action. Often I'll hold the camera high over my head, but in this case a low camera angle really did the trick!

I always encourage couples to allow some extra time for fun and creative portraits on their wedding day. Often these are some my favorite photos. Once the formal family and bridal party photos are done at the church I love to spend extra time with the bride and groom for some romantic photos, ideally at an alternate location. In this case, we had the good fortune to have the Capitol building in Washington DC as our backdrop. And at sunset! This couple did a really great job planning their wedding day schedule.
